52 Week Project | Different Perspective

This week’s theme for the 52 week project is different perspective.

In thinking on it, I wanted to try a very low angle perspective and a very high angle with Bender. It would limit me to a few captures, so I decided I would incorporate a couple of shoot through shots.

The tree in the backyard…

The back step where Bender was on the top step and I lower and shooting up. Those wrinkles!

Inside for a couple more low angle captures….

And a shoot through a Kong….

Bender will run behind the couch like he’s running in a chute and I wanted to capture that perspective. Dropped his Kong behind the couch, wedged myself on the other end and waited… I wasn’t able to capture a good run through the couch chute, but I snagged a before and at the end.

52 Week Project | Negative Space

This week’s theme for the 52 Week Project is negative space.  Negative space in photography is: the area which surrounds the main subject in an image (the main subject is known as the “positive space”).

The weather had warmed up a smidgen (huzzah for 20s/30s!) so I leashed up Axle and headed out on a short walk to the nearby elementary school. Axle has been on many a photography outing with me, but has a lovely knack for looking everywhere except at me. Unless there is a ball or treat readily available. I did not bring one or the other, though this was on purpose as I wanted to capture his profile with the negative space (those big jowly jowls!).

We started with a good sized snow pile in the back parking lot of the school. It and the sky acted like natural white backdrops which made Axle pop and emphasized his profile and shapes.

We transitioned into using the back of the school which has some cool brick. Axle is the only dog I know who not only makes bubbles in his jowls, but can make them with his nose too!

This look…
“Look mom, you didn’t bring treats, you didn’t bring a ball, my butt is frozen. This is thrilling (insert sarcasm). Ok, fine I’ll look at you. But that’s all you get.” He makes me laugh with his grumpy old man look.

52 Week Project | Black & White

This week’s theme for the 52 Week Project was Black & White.

Snuggles, my parents cat is mostly white with some black, so she was picked to the be the main subject as a literal black and white. She likes to be outside, though only on her terms. So she wasn’t thrilled when I plopped her in the snow.

She warmed up a bit, and meandered towards me and the door (I had it open and shooting into the house) but she decided being a model wasn’t in her favor for the day.

Lilly was cozy in her bed, and pretty much stayed there.

Tootsie was cozy on the chair, though she’ll usually interact with me if I wake her. She’s grey and white, so black and whites work well with her.

52 Week Project | New

A brand new year and a brand new start to the 52 Week Project that features dog & pet photographers from around the country and world. Each week we are presented with a new theme that we are able to interpret in any way we would like, as long as it features a dog, cat or other pet.

The theme for this week: New

And right after the holidays there are plenty of new things, though I was pretty sure my dogs wouldn’t be fans of modeling the leggings and tights I got. Instead Bender was volunteered to show off my new boots. Ideally I wanted to snag the pictures of my boots in their “natural” landscape in the snow/outdoors, but with temps below zero and Bender freezing off his tootsies, we moved inside to the couch.

Not sure Bender was as interested in posing with my new boots….

52 Week Project | Simplify

For this week’s challenge, the them was Simplify. This could be via backgrounds, what was included in the image and what could be taken away without changing the story of the image.

Cue my ball hog Axle with a batch of pure white snow (we finally got out of our below zero cold snap here in MN!). The snow acted like a simple white background. Additionally I made all of the images black and white to further simplify the look of the images, so the focus was Axle and his snow antics.  He LOVES his Luna & Sol balls by Planet Dog as much as he loves the snow.
