This Version of Your Dog Is Worth Remembering (Winter Edition)

Winter slows everything down.

Walks are shorter.
Snow blankets the ground.
The world feels quieter.
And your dog curls up a little closer than usual.

This season is refreshing, cozy, calm and chill. We gain more time to notice – how our dogs settle in, tromp in the snow or simply exist next to us. And it is often in these quieter moments that we realize how much they’ve changed. How much they’ve aged. And how little time we actually get to spend with them.

Your dog has many versions.

The puppy chaos.
The confident adult.
The calm, thoughtful senior.

Right now, they are this moment’s version – with winter habits, winter energy, and winter quirks. And as subtle as these details feel, they won’t always be the same.

This version of your dog is worth remembering.

Why winter is a magical time to photograph dogs

Winter sessions aren’t about bold colors or big adventures.

Instead, they are about:

  • Expression & action
  • Connection
  • Texture & crisp backdrops
  • Snow!

Winter brings out not only the cozy moments but the moments of unbridled joy and play.

What I watch for during winter sessions

In winter, I pay extra attention to:

  • Minnesota weather!
  • your dog’s comfort & energy level
  • unique frozen backdrops
  • subtle expressions that show contentment, curiosity or pure glee

Every session is unhurried and shaped around your dog – whether that means bouncing through the snow, warmup breaks or simply letting them take in the winter smells and sounds.

The details that matter most

The snow speckled muzzle.
The adorable sweaters and jackets, only worn now.
That calm steady look they give you when the world feels still.

These are the details that don’t shout – but they matter deeply.

And they’re often the ones people wish they had remembered more clearly later on.

I photograph a limited number of dogs each month so every session feels intentional, calm and centered around your dog.

If this season feels like the right moment to remember this version of your dog, I’d love to photograph them.
