Snow day & dogs – Minne-SNOW-ta has arrived!

Indeed, Minne-SNOW-ta has finally arrived! To those not in our neck of the woods, we haven’t had a covering snow in a long long long time. In fact, Christmas day it rained. And was brown. With balmy mid 30s to 40s temps.

For those of us living here, it was comfortable temp wise, though a little weird to not have a white Christmas.

With the arrival of the snow on Monday, it meant the weekly adventure to Tri County Humane Society on Tuesday would sport a lovely, crisp white floordrop for each of the assorted dogs to pose within. (Oh you didn’t know I was volunteering there weekly? Yup! I started back in August!)

First up, the energetic, bouncy, LOVES everyone… Schnapps! He’s a cattle dog mix, a year and half old and started life as an outdoor farm dog. He and his buddy found it enjoyable to chase cattle and now they are looking for new homes to settle into. Want a bouncy (he can jump up to face height!) energetic, happy dog in your life? Opt for Schnapps!

Next up, a slightly naughty, energetic 6 month old puppy Buddy! He’s a German shepherd x husky mix and brimming with puppy energy. Its thought that he may have been under socialized as a younger puppy and may have a bit of reactivity towards other dogs. With slow, positive interactions with other dogs and the world this pup will blossom into a wonderful dog. While we hung out, I noticed a bit of alarm barking at various sounds – makes me think he’s a little over watchful (akin to the German shepherd perhaps?). Otherwise he’s a wonderful bouncy and sometimes naughty puppy! Also, did I mention how AWESOME his ears are???

Following was an energetic, compact lady lab Suzie! Classic to labs I meet she LOVED treats and had a whole bundle of excited energy. This girl needs a home that will help her continue to come out of her shell, expel that excited energy in games of fetch and loads of treats & snuggles.

Last up, the brindle beauty Konky! This lovely lady has been at TCHS quite a while, so let’s aim to get her a new home! She knows how to sit, shake hands and throughly enjoys treats. Though… she’ll pull you like a freight train to get to different places while on a leash! Also… she’s crafty. She figured out how to open the sliding door at the back of her kennel to let herself outside in the back kennel area! Another quirk you will get with this lovely lady… she SCREAMS when she whines. No barks, just a very loud whine to let you know that she would rather be walking out the door with you than staying at TCHS. (Teaching a quiet or whisper would be ideal, perhaps she’s completely different in a home setting!) She would be a wonderful companion and she’s mega cute in her brindle paint job!

And then… my camera battery died. Which meant Spike (husky mix, he’s talker and quite friendly) and Kodi (big Pyrenees) weren’t able to have their pictures updated! (Also no assorted cats either, drat!) Hopefully they aren’t at TCHS next week, but if they are, BOTH of my batteries are fully charged!

Note: all of the adoptable dogs are on leash for safety. Leashes and eye boogies have been removed to focus on each of the dogs available for adoption.

Looking to add a new dog or cat into your family? Stop in to Tri County Humane Society (Tuesdays I’m there in the morning, you might see me!) or peruse their website for the perfect addition to your family! Yes, adoptable dogs are adorable in the snow, but they’d be much more adorable in the snow in a yard of their own!

Monday in October

Traipsed through last week, hoarded a bazillion reference images for some drawing (the references are birds. You didn’t know I draw?), wrote on an ongoing story (yes I write stories too!) and then on the way home on Friday I realize I hadn’t popped in to give you guys the updates on the fall colors! Whoops!

Better today than to skip a whole week, especially since we are in the peak time of colors!

BAM! We have color people! If you didn’t get out on Sunday, make a point to carve some time this week to take a stroll in the fall colors. The North Shore is in full peak and should be EPIC! Plus there’s been some solid rainfall so the waterfalls should be flowing. What an epic combo – waterfalls & fall colors!

St. Cloud is in 25%-50% with some trees already dropping their leaves and some still in their greens. Minneapolis & St. Paul are in the 10-25% range, there should be some beautiful colors showing up as the week progresses. (Minneapolis and St. Paul are often a week slower in color change than the rest of the state!).

I would love to meet up with you and your dog for some fall color dog photography! If not a session, at least get out and stroll amongst the colors. A great way to relish the tail end of the warm season. Plus your dog totally loves walks!

Time for Halloween! 🎃 Why not a whole month of ghosts and ghouls?

For us that means rocking a Halloween collar for Bender (Spooktacular from Atomic Collars) and oranges, purples, stripes and Halloween inspired colors and shirts for each day. (I found an epic shirt yesterday – the Wizard of Oz scarecrow, arms outstretched in classic zombie pose muttering… BRAINS! BWHAHAHAHAHA!)

Decorations for the house haven’t been put up yet, but they will be arriving soon. Costume will be a mummy, with the front of the house matching the tattered cloth. There are visions of cookies, haunted gingerbread houses and bloody cakes dancing in my head.  There are 27 days until Halloween!

Are you and your dog dressing up this Halloween?

If you want to get to know me a bit better and learn about my adventures into sewing, cooking, vintage recipes and more pop over to Banterings

Enjoy your fall days, the vibrant colors and time with your dog. Catch you on Friday!

Weekly 52 | Shades of Grey | St. Cloud MN Dog Photography

St. Cloud MN dog photography – About A Dog Photography |  Weekly 52 is a blog circle with a theme for every week (find the link for the next in the circle at the end of the post).

Shades of grey.
The first thought is to a clichéd book with a plethora of kinks within (we haven’t read it personally). Not the direction we’d like to interpret this theme…

The weather held a balmy mid 30s on Friday (it trended into 40s over the weekend, heat wave for Minnesota!) with a dainty dusting of snow on the trees that lent to a crunchy contrast with ample depth of greys. The sky held onto overcast grey, the scene was fitting.

Loaded up Bender and headed out to Bend in the River (an every photographer’s photographed there location). Tiffany of TEM Photography (just down the road neighbors in St. Cloud!) had mentioned a quaint less used area just across the road from the main hub of Bender in the River and we decided to point our adventure that direction.

Bender is in protest against photography these days and he was a solid butthead. Looking at camera? Bah, there are far too many smells. Being a freeze baby, he shook like a rattle every time we paused. He hardly looked in the camera’s direction. GAH!!!

Take a breath [with mumbles of how much of a royal pain in the arse he can be – we even had über tasty treats with…]

Luckily we had reached out to Tiffany of TEM Photography – she has a pair of shelties, one who is merle colored – and they would be in route shortly. What better for shades of grey then a dog who literally IS shades of grey?

And…
the EASIEST dogs EVER!

Ranger & Finn pranced around, we set them up in the first spot.
They sat.
And sat.
And sat.
AND looked in the direction of the treats / camera!!!

(Is it something to do with them being shelties & not a pittie?)

Ranger is merle, with the chillness of a hipster. He preferred trampled paths over forging through the dog leg deep snow.

Finn, the rowdy, is super fluffy and full of puppy spunk – he’s a mere 10 month pup! (Plus he’s got a HUGE mane!)

They frolicked in the snow.

Back to posing. Ranger was literally plopped into position and worked it like the master model he is.

The tall grass gave texture as well as a hint of a shade of grey.

A bit more depth of greys were found in the area of the fallen log. Look how dainty his wee feet are draped over the log.

Ranger wrapped up the posing nestled into a small tree clinging to its leaves. Many shades of grey & textures!

Being that Ranger is merle, even in color he fits the theme shades of grey. Slide to see the color vs the black & white
